Volunteer Opportunities for the Mental Health Association in Hendricks County


Friendly Visitor

Nursing homes and county home (one on one or group activities). (time commitment can be as little as one time a month or as much as you like)

 

Connections Center

(self-help group for those dealing with severe and persistent mental illness) group meets every Friday afternoon, but volunteers can choose which week they can help)

 

Clerical

Work with office manager to complete large mailings, preparing literature, and updating mailing lists.  (time commitment is as much or as little as you like)

 

 

Fund-raisers

Wreath sales (Nov-Dec), Send-A-Hug (Feb), GALA (May), as well as any additional fund-raising events we plan.  (time commitment can be one activity or many)

 

Gift Lift

Preparing and delivering gifts to residents in nursing homes, and state mental hospitals.  (time commitment is in Nov and Dec and can be as much or little as you like.)

 

Kids on the Block Puppet Program

Volunteer to present programs to area students based on scripts provided.  Training and support is offered with the team.   (time commitment is during the school year)

 

Support Group Facilitator

Volunteer to lead a support group on a specific mental health topic.  We strive to meet the needs of the community for our support groups.  Currently interest in support groups include eating disorders, single parenting, anxiety, parents of children with special needs.  We are open to new ideas.  (time commitment would be minimally one time a month.
