A Message from the 2010 Honorary Membership Chair |

June 2010
Dear Community Member:
It is a privilege for me to be Honorary Membership Chair for Mental Health America Hendricks County for 2010. The figure is quoted that one in five persons will experience a serious mental/emotional disorder at some time in their life. This encompasses all ages. Famous historical figures are included. From my experience in the family practice of medicine over many years, I can testify to the truth of this statement.
We are very fortunate to have such an organization in our county as Mental Health America to oversee a coalition of agencies that minister to the very real needs of our citizens of all ages. Mental illness can strike any of us at any time. Who among us has not found his/her reserves threatened on some occasion when the stresses of daily life get to us and we are tempted to give up? I myself have had the benefit of psychotherapy, which can be lifesaving.
Mental Health America has a committed Board of Directors, staff, standing committees and sub-committees which reach into all areas of our county population. Programs include Our Children, Our Divorce; Active Parenting; Education—Kids on the Block; Connection Center; Mental Health—Support Group; Gift Lift; Ombudsman; Fundraising Opportunities; Referrals. Please call the Executive Director at 317-272-0027 for more information.
Affiliates of Mental Health America Hendricks County are Mental Health America Indiana, Minority Health Taskforce, Sexual Violence Taskforce, Substance Abuse Taskforce, Tobacco Free Hendricks County, United Way, and Women of Influence.
Won’t you join Mental Health America Hendricks County and contribute financially to support such a wonderful institution? Let us insure that this nonprofit 501c3 treasure does not disappear from our great county. I thank you for your time and support.
Sincerely,
David M. Hadley, MD Health Officer, Hendricks County Health Department
