  Mission Statement

Mental Health America of Hendricks County strives to provide information and education on mental health issues, and to link citizens of Hendricks County with appropriate mental health services.

 

 

 

 

Goals & Objectives

  1. To provide information and make appropriate referrals to those who are in need of emotional and psychiatric treatment.
  2.            

    Maintain a current mental health service provider resource list.

    Maintain area and community resources information for additional referral purposes.

    Maintain comprehensive files on a variety of mental health issues for duplication and distribution to individuals as they make topic requests

     

  3. To facilitate support groups for those dealing with the mental illness of family members and for those suffering from mental illness or emotional distress.
  4.            

    Organize support groups for individuals experiencing particular situations / conditions.

    Recruit volunteer support group facilitators.

    Publicize activities/meetings of support groups through media and specialty groups.

 

  1. To increase public awareness of mental health information, treatment and services available.
  2.  

    Distribute mental health service provider resource lists and mental health topic information at community                  programs/activities, health fairs, etc.

    Help plan and assist with community mental health screenings.

    Advertise the programs, activities, services literature mental health resources, etc. available through the association to the public through news releases, flyers, etc. on a continual basis.

     

  3. To improve attitudes toward mental illness. To erase the stigma often connected with mental illness.
  4.  

    Participate in area and community health fairs and activities with information on issues related to stigma reduction and     factual information on mental illnesses.

    Provide news releases and publicity related to mental health issues and the negative effects of stigma.

    Where possible, include mental health stigma issues in school and community education presentations.

     

  5. To recruit and train volunteers to work toward the missions of MHAHC.
  6.  

    Maintain a list of volunteer opportunities with the association.

    Maintain a brochure on youth mental health educational program volunteer opportunities.

    Send periodic news releases and articles on volunteer opportunities available.

    Share volunteer opportunities at community group/organization meetings where possible.

     

  7. To provide education through public workshops, distribution of literature, media, and videos, etc.
  8.  

    Periodically provide mental health information articles to local/area media.

    Maintain a list of mental health resources (books, videos, tapes, etc.) available for loan to the public.

    Provide community mental health educational programs.

    Provide youth mental health educational programs through schools and other public group settings.

    Help plan and assist with community mental health screenings.

 

  1. To work for the prevention of mental illness and the promotion of mental health.
  2.  

    Maintain accurate and current literature on mental health and mental illness issues

    Provide periodic PSA's and articles to media on mental health

    Awareness / wellness issues related to prevention of and coping with mental illnesses.

 

  1. To advocate for the rights of those who are mentally ill.

 

    Periodically promote one of the association roles as advocacy for those with mental illness.

    Actively advocate for individuals with mental illnesses who request this service of the association.

 

  1. To support positive mental health legislation that benefits the entire community.

    Provide mental health legislation information to association Board members at each meeting.

    Encourage Board member contacts with legislators on mental health legislative issues.

    Provide periodic PSA's and articles to media on important mental health legislative issues to request public input.
