The Junior Mental Health Association is for  6th., 7th. and 8th grade students in the Hendricks County School system.  This age group is targeted because:

    1. This age group seems to have more time available than older students.

    2. This is the age that students tend to become more social.

    3. By recruiting students at this age it is more likely they will continue involvement in high school

    4. Students in this age group are more impressionable than older students.

 

Students are recruited in a number of ways:

    1 Announcements in the local paper

    2. Flyers posted in the community

    3. Announcements sent home with students from school

    4. Announcements through church youth groups

 

Students  meet monthly.

Meeting are organized by the Volunteer Coordinator for the Mental Health Association in Hendricks County with the assistance of a committee member appointed by the Board of Directors of the MHAHC.

Activities of the JMHA in Hendricks County include but are not necessarily be limited to:

Community Projects i.e. potted flowers delivered to retirement community residents; party planned and carried out for residents of County Home; collection of goodwill donations to State Mental Hospitals; pen pal program with nursing home residents; assistance with MHAHC fund-raisers and health fairs as well as gift lift.

Celebrations for participation in activities may include pizza parties, bowling, miniature golf, a bonfire, etc.
