MHAHC MISSION STATEMENT-The Mental Health America of Hendricks County strives to provide information and education on mental health issues and to link Hendricks County citizens with appropriate mental health services.
Literature Distribution
37,548 pieces of literature distributed on various mental health topics including depression, anxiety, and suicide

Education Programs
Early Childhood Programs - designed for pre-schoolers age 3,4,5. These programs focus on feelings and being able to identify different feelings and describing these feelings. Programs are presented in day care centers. Activity sheets, handouts for parents and teachers, reinforcement activities are provided.

389 children served during 2002 for a total of 96 hours of education services
Kids On the Block - puppet programs that use near life-size puppets students are presented various real life situations that help understand and form positive responses to these situations. Topics are age appropriate and include: substance abuse, problem solving, feelings, attention deficit disorder, coping with divorce, and positive self-esteem, and multi-cultural issues.

4,860 children and youth served during 2002 with 738 hours of mental health education.
I'm Thumbody Special. Conflict resolution, anger control, learning Positive Relationships strategies, suicide prevention, Youth depression, rape prevention.
Connections Center
Provides social, educational, and recreational activities for mental health consumers. Group meets on Wednesday afternoons for BINGO and stigma education class. Friday nights the groups meets for an evening meal, movie or activity. Weekend events including concerts, sport events, and picnics.

40 Different individuals attended 48 sessions for 144 hours of service.
SUPPORT GROUPS
Grief - Sponsored in conjunction with Hendricks Community Hospital. Ben Keckler chaplain (30 individuals, 12 hours)
Depression/Manic Depression- 2nd and 4th Thursdays at Light and Life Methodist Church in Avon. Dick Pearson and Cheryl Plunkett facilitators (20 individuals 36 hours)
Anxiety – 1st and 3rd Thursdays at Light and Life Methodist Church in Avon. Dick Pearson and Cheryl Plunkett facilitators (20 individuals 36 hours)
Widowed Persons – 1st Sunday at Calvary UMC in Brownsburg, diner out one Friday a month and breakfast out one Saturday a month. K. Lush, J. Bolduc, R. Summerlot, J Oviatt facilitators (60 individuals 72 hours)
Step-parents - 1st Monday of each month at Plainfield Baptist Church, Gail Husk, facilitator (5 individuals 10 hours)
Pregnancy and Postpartum Depression - each Tuesday night 6:30 p.m. at Penrod Counseling in Avon, Deb Penrod facilitator (16 individuals 15 hours)
Service provided to 151 individuals served with 1818 hours of mental health education / support
PARENTING PROGRAMS
The number one goal identified by the Solutions Council of the Hendricks County United Way was to improve and foster parenting skills. Because of this MHAHC has offered the following parenting classes.
1 – 2 – 3 Magic! - effective discipline program for patents & children age 2-12, step by step proven techniques
1-2-3-4 Parent - parenting techniques for preschoolers that make the most of these early development years
Surviving Your Adolescents - dealing with the topics of drugs, violence and sex and program help parents understand what adolescents behaviors are considered "normal"
Helping Children Through the Divorce - court ordered program for parent seeking dissolution of marriage so that they understand the effects of divorce on their children
Care for the Caregiver - understanding the aging process and changes that occur as the child assumes the role of parent.
497 parents served in 2002 in 48 workshops and 136 hours of education.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are always needed to assist with various service projects, fund-raising activities, and clerical work. Opportunities are available for youth as well as adults. 62% of our operating revenues came from fundraising, grants, and donations.
38 at risk parents attended parenting classes through a partnership with Partners in Care and Healthy Families
121 Adults attended mental health education program
All elementary teachers received mental health "tool kits" to help them understand students dealing with mental health issues
42 incarcerated parents received parenting skills classes
46 mothers at Sheltering Wings received parent education classes
30 women received substance abuse counseling through a partnership with Penrod Counseling.
864 teenagers received information regarding rape prevention
Recipient of grants from Cinergy, Whitelick Heritage Foundation, Inland Container, CARE Initiative of Purdue University
7,981 residents received Mental Health education and or support services utilizing 1,444 hours of service
