1997 Year In Review

LITERATURE DISTRIBUTION
-- 31,641 pieces distributed including 2,107 on depression--6 tapes on the topic of depression, 1,742 placed on Cummins Outpatient Waiting Room literature rack, 2,383 at libraries in May for Mental Health Month, and 391 pieces at summer/fall booths & health fairs (including 359 self-esteem and 250 parenting packets).
WORKSHOPS/COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS
--295 different parents with children under 8 years of age attended 19 classes (67 educational hours) of the court-mandated program "Helping Children Through The Divorce."
--Depression and Anxiety Disorders Screening Days each were collaborative 4-hour educational efforts with MHAHC, Cummins MHC, and Hendricks Community Hospital. 32 total different individuals attended and completed the inventories, reviewed results with a trained professional, and received additional information.
--"1,2,3,4 Parent!" 3-session/6 hour series was held once and reached 11 different parents with topics of you and your child, preventing problems, and encouraging positive behavior.
--"Active Parenting Today!" 4-session/8 hour series was held 2 times and reached 34 different parents with topics of active and democratic parenting, instilling courage and self-esteem, understanding your child, developing responsibility, and winning cooperation.
--"Active Parenting of Teens!" 4-session/8 hour series was held 2 times and reached 23 different parents with same topics above plus the challenge of alcohol/drugs and parenting and teen sexuality.
--"The Parenting Project" 5-session/12.5 hour parenting workshops were held in the fall and reached 57 parents with condensed versions of "Active Parenting Today!." Active Parenting of Teens!" and Helping Your Children Succeed in School."
--"You & Your Aging Parent" 3 session/9 hour series was held 2 times and reached 35 total different individuals desiring to break down barriers, strengthen relationships, understand needs, and foster positive communications with their parent/relative/friend.
--"Grief and the Holidays" 2 hour educational program reached 54 persons and provided suggestions and coping techniques for handling holiday feelings plus a memorial candle-lighting ceremony.
--Presentations on the topics "Coping With Stress" to an estimated 55 Danville Rotary Club members, "The Importance of Your Social Health" to approximately 25 Singles Over 40. "Mental Health Tips & Volunteer Opportunities with MHAHC to about 15 Widowed Persons Support Group members "Adult Self-Esteem" to 5 Adult ADHD Support Group members and "Stress Management" to 30 members of the Danville
Business & Professional Women's Association.
--"May Is Mental Health Month" Educational Panel on childhood mental health issues.
--Many support groups offered additional community mental health programs in conjunction with their support group sessions on a wide variety of topics.
OTHER EDUCATION/OUTREACH PROGRAMS
--529 information and referral calls/walk-ins--MHAHC participation in United Way "Youth Day of Caring."
--2 different individuals received basic clothing personal care items from MHAHC Emergency Lift.
--MHAHC booths & literature distribution at United Airlines Wellness Fair (4.5 hours), Drug House Odyssey (12 hours). Drug Free Family Day (25 hours), Community ChildCare Center Health/Safety Day (4 hours), and Brownsburg July 4 Extravaganza (24 hours).
--Panel presentation on MHAHC support groups, parenting classes, etc. to Plainfield Middle School parents
--Presentation to Plainfield Kiwanis Club about MHAHC and Drop In Center.
--"May Is Mental Health Month" Activities: Community Mental Health Fair (4 hours). Anxiety Disorders Screening Day (reported above, and Childhood Mental Health Issues Panel (reported above).
--MHAHC Kids Games & Parent Packets distributed at Beasley's Apple Festival-Danville, Plainfield Quaker Days Craft Festival, F. S. / Step Ahead Council Young Children's Health Fair, Plainfield WalMart (pkts. only)
--MHAHC car entry with candy/literature distributed in Plainfield Quaker Days Parade.

--Food Concessions for Flyer Garage Sale, Danville Fun Festival, Beasley's, Plainfield Spring Fest., plus.
