LITERATURE DISTRIBUTION

45,938 pieces distributed including 4,163 depression pieces-11 tapes on the topic of depression, 2,375 placed on Cummings MHC Outpatient Lounge, 3,439 at libraries in May for Mental Health Month, and 6,556 pieces at summer/fall booths & health fairs (including 150 self-esteem & 150 parenting packets).

WORKSHOPS/COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS

--259 different parents with children under 18 years of age attended 19 classes (76 est. educational hours) of the court-mandated program "Helping Children Through The Divorce".

--Depression Screening Day was a collaborative 4-hour educational effort with MHAHC, Cummins MHC, and Hendricks Community Hospital. Twenty four different individuals attended and completed the depression inventory, reviewed results with a trained professional, and received additional information

--Anxiety Disorders Screening Day was a collaborative 2-hour effort with MHAHC & Cummins MHC with 4 individuals attending, completing inventories, reviewing results, and receiving more information.

--"Active Parenting Today" 6-session/12-hour series was held 3 times and reached 39 different parents with topics of Active & Democratic Parenting, Instilling Courage & Self-Esteem, Understanding Your Child, Developing Responsibility, & Winning Cooperation.

--"Active Parenting of Teens" 6-session/12 hour series was held once and reached 11 different parents with same topics above plus The Challenge of Alcohol/Drugs & Parenting & Teen Sexuality.

--Two educational presentations on Job (Work Stress and Managing Change to Indiana Gas employees.

--One educational presentation on Job/Work Stress to Danville Chamber of Commerce.

--Two educational presentations on "Depression & Women" to Women's Issues Support Group and Depression/Manic Depression Support Group.

--"You & Your Aging Parent" 6-session/12-hour series and 3-session/6 hour series, each held and reached a total of 20 different individuals desiring to break down barriers, strengthen relationships, understand needs, and foster positive communications with their parent/relative/friend

--"Grief and the Holidays" 2 1/2 educational program reached 58 persons and provided suggestions and coping techniques for handling holiday feelings plus a memorial candle-lighting ceremony.

--Presentation on the topic "Stigma & Mental Illness" to 5 individuals in Companion Care Training

--Many support groups offered additional community mental health programs in conjunction with their support group sessions on a wide variety of topics.

OTHER EDUCATION/OUTREACH PROGRAMS

--MHAHC participation in United Way Campaign "Day of Caring" and "Youth Day of Caring."

--329 information and referral calls/walk-ins.

--16 different individuals received basic clothing/personal care items from MHAHC Emergency Lift.

--MHAHC booths & literature distribution at United Airlines Wellness Fair (3.5 hours), Brownsburg July 4 Extravaganza (12 hours), Health Tracks Health Fair (2 hours), PSI Health/Safety Fair (4 hours), PSI UWCI Agency Fair (2.5 hours), and County Drug-Free Family Night (2 hours).

--MHAHC car entry with candy/literature distributed in Plainfield Quaker Days Parade.

--"May is Mental Health Month" Radio Program on WZFE-FM Brownsburg.

--Presentations to Brownsburg Sertoma Club, Evening Plainfield Optimists Club, Day Plainfield Optimists Club about MHAHC, the Drop In Center, and School Mental Health Programs.

--MHAHC Kids Games & Parent Packets distributed at Beasley's Apple Festival, Danville, and Plainfield Quaker Days Craft Festival, & First Steps/Step Ahead Council Young Children' Health Fair.

CHILDHOOD MENTAL HEALTH ACTIVITIES

--5,000 pocket size Teen Help Lines & 10,500 Report Card Inserts were distributed.

148 kindergarten & 1 St graders--Book Reading and Games--Avon Outdoor Ed. Day--4 education hours.

--467 second graders--mental health book reading programs of "Don't Pop Your Cork", "Don't Feed the Monster" and "Don't Rant and Rave"--7 county elementary schools--12 educational hours

--1,005 third graders--"I'm Thumbody Special"--12 schools & Cummins Day Camp-44 education hrs

--400 third graders--"Respect Yourself and Others, Too"--7 co. elementary schools--i3 ed. hrs.

--4 4-5-6th graders--"Feeling Good About Me"--Cummins MHC Program for 1 educational hour.

--4 children (age unknown)--Book reading and discussion "Double-Dip Emotions"-- 1 ed. hour.

--27 children participated in "I Like Being Me" in I co. elementary school for I ed. hour

--538 fifth & sixth graders--" Anger Management"--11 county elem/middle/jr hi schools for 23 educ. hours.

--601 fifth & sixth graders--"Conflict Resolution"- II Co. elem/middle/jr hi schools for 24 ed. hours.

--246 8th graders participated in "Claire's Story" in 1 county jr high school for 28 educational hours.

--67 youth, 11-14 yrs--Red Cross Babysitting/Discipline/Child Development-2 libraries-24 ed. hrs.

--77 h. S. teens-Stigma/Mental Illness "Interference" Program-- in 2 schools + 4-H Conf.-- 11 ed. hrs.

--270 h. s. teens--"Dangerous Dating" Program--2 county high schools-27 educational hours.

TOTAL CLASSROOM HOURS FOR THE YEAR =213

CHRISTMAS GIFT LIFT

--774 different individuals received gifts (Carter/Madison/Cummins/Clubhouse (health c.c.'s/county Home).

--$1,699 was contributed by businesses/groups/individuals for gift purchases.

--Estimated cash value of donated gifts in box donations = $2642.61 + $2,238.25 value of donated gifts for Larue Carter & Clubhouse participants. Total value of donated gifts = $4,880.86.

--Cash contributions + value of donated gifts = $6,579.86.

MUTUAL SUPPORT GROUPS-Total = 211 sessions/591.5 hours/456 participants

--Drop In Center-24 sessions for 48 hours with 36 different participants.

--Attention Deficit Disorder-8 sessions for 18 hours with 67 different participants.

--Depression Manic Depression- 18 sessions for 25 hours with 43 different participants.

--Single Parents-6 sessions for 9 hours with 8 different participants.

--Women's Issues-23 sessions for 63.5 hours with 52 different participants.

--Anxiety-21 sessions for 34.5 hours with 67 different participants.

--Singles Over 40-59 sessions for 314.5 hours with 128 different participants.

--Families of the Mentally Ill-11 sessions for 16.5 hours with 17 different participants.

--Grief-11 sessions for 22 hours with 17 different participants.

--Adult Attention Deficit Disorder-4 sessions for 7 hours with 8 different participants.

VOLUNTEER SERVICES

--Friendly Visiting-578 hours (26 volunteers) -School Programs-45 hours (4 volunteers)

--Board Members-876 hours (25 volunteers) (some of these hours may be reflected in other totals)

--Fundraising and Booths-325 hours (includes wreath sales) -Gift Lift-882 hours

--Support Group Facilitators-78 hours -Clerical-245 hours (4 volunteers)

--Drop In Center-72 hours - (6 volunteers) Miscellaneous--30 hours

FUND RAISING EFFORTS

--539 wreaths (3 sizes) sold this 8th sale year (606-95, 576-94, and 547-93)

--"I'm Thumbody Special!" Shirt Sales promote this program effort & self-esteem.

--Individuals/groups/businesses joined MHAHC with paid memberships for a total of $3,175.

--4th Annual Valentine Send A Hug Project provided 411 "hugs" & gifts from lovable bears!

--The 2nd Annual Haunted Bridge Flea Market/Craft Festival added net profit of $1,00O+.

--Proceeds from children's games at festivals/booths helped offset the cost of parenting packets.

--MHAHC Board Members & Volunteers ran Concessions at Plainfield Spring Festival, Danville Fun Festival and at the Hendricks County Flyer Garage Sale.

--MHAHC realized profits from the sales of mental health education children's books ("Cork, Monster, & Rant & Rave") contributed by Author Dr. Adolf Moser.

--Donations brought $1,820 for the Drop In Center for individuals with long-term mental illness.

--Advent Calendar Sales & Pictures With Santa were new fundraisers for MHAHC this year!

--Indiana Internal Medicine Consultants, Inc. sponsored "Fun festival" at Plainfield Hummel Park with proceeds to MHAHC to conduct youth and adolescent programs on depression and self-esteem.

--Board Member and Volunteer Kay Hughes, through the PSI Employee Incentive Volunteer Program, brought $602 to MHAHC thanks to her efforts and many volunteer hours.

--Other projects/income benefiting MHAHC include United Way contributions (THANKS!), Beasley's Apple Pie Contest, Avon H.S. NHK Volleyball Tournament, Board Member Car Sale Contribution, Dr. Gabe Gachaw--Special Benefactor for office relocation assistance, "Divorce" Program net income, Step Ahead Council Fiscal Agent administrative fees, education contract with Cummins MHC.
