Literature Distribution

50,563 pieces distributed including 990 + 11 tapes on the topic of depression, 2,024 placed on MHAHC display rack at Cummins MHC Outpatient Lounge, 1,975 at libraries in May for Mental Health Month, and 7,603 pieces at summer/fall booths & health fairs (including 612 parenting packets).

Workshops/Community Education Programs

--190 different individuals participated in 16 classes (64 est. educational hours) of the court-mandated educational program "Helping Children Through The Divorce" for divorcing parents with children 18 years of age and younger.

--Depression Screening Day was a collaborative 4-hour educational effort with MHAHC, Cummins MHC, and Hendricks Community Hospital. Twenty-five different individuals attended and completed the depression inventory, reviewed results with a trained professional, and received additional information on depressive illness.

--Anxiety Disorders Screening Day was a collaborative 2 hour educational effort with MHAHC & Cummins MHC. Three individuals attended and completed the inventory, reviewed results with a professional, and received additional information on anxiety disorders.

--Many support groups offered additional community education programs in conjunction with their support group sessions on a wide variety of topics.

--Five educational presentations were made to support groups on the topics of: Anger, Coping with Grief, Assertiveness & Women, and Helping Children Do Well In School.

--Three educational presentations were made to community and business groups on the topics of: Children & Stress, Parent/Child Relationships, and Helping Kids With Life Changes.

--Three educational presentations were given in the Hendricks County community: Anger Management, Managing Conflict, and Managing Aggressive Behavior.

--With educational resources from MHAHC, Cummins staff presented several programs for Cummins consumers on the topics of: Schizophrenia, Health Education, Stress & Change, Depression, Service to Others, and the Mind/Body Connection.

--"Active Parenting Today!" Six session 12-hours series reached 20 parents with topics of: Active and Democratic Parenting, Instilling Courage & Self-Esteem, Understanding Your Child, Developing Responsibility, and Winning Cooperation

Other Educational/Outreach Programs

--MHAHC booths at Drug Free Family Night (1.5 his), Faith in Action Health Fair (4 his), PSI Health Fair (4 his), Cascade H.S. Health fair (7 hrs), Drug House Odyssey (12 hrs), Plainfield Health Care Center Health Fair (5 his), United Airlines Wellness Fair (4.5 Hrs) Total = 38 hours.

--MHAHC car entry (candy & boo-boo Band-Aids distributed in Plainfield Quaker Days Parade.

--MHAHC Kids Games & Parent Packets distributed at Beasley's Apple Festival, Danville; Plainfield Quaker Days Craft Festival; Brownsburg Old Fashion Festival; Hazelwood Fish Fry, First Steps/Step Ahead Council Young Children's Health Fair. Danville; Eagle Creek October Fest (games only).

--Presentation to 19 Plainfield Kiwanis Club members about MHAHC and Stigma.

--Presentation to 21 Plainfield Rotary Club members on MHAHC activities and Drop-In Center.

--Presentation to nine Plainfield Optimist Club members about MHAHC and MHAHC youth education programs.

--"May is Mental Health Month" Radio Program on WQFE-FM Brownsburg in recognition of "May Is Mental Health Month," a variety of mental health literature was on display in quantities for distribution at Hendricks County libraries for all of May.

--Distribution of 612 educational packets on parenting.

--MHAHC participation in United Way Campaign "Day of Caring" and "Youth Day of Caring."

--771 information and referral calls/walk-ins (605 in 1994, 317 in 1993).

Childhood Mental Health Activities

--5,800 pocket size Teen Help Lines were distributed to all county junior high and high schools for students.

--8,335 Report Card inserts on "Talking With Your Child At Report Card Time" were distributed to all county public and private elementary schools.

--1,171 third graders participated in the "I'm Thumbody Special" Self-Esteem Program in ten county elementary schools and Cummins Therapy Camp for 42 educational hours.

--Anger Management Programs were presented to 607 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in six different schools for 28 educational hours.

--Conflict Resolution Programs were presented to 631 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in six different schools for 28 educational hours.

-916 second graders participated in MHAHC book reading programs of "Don't Pop Your Cork On Mondays, " "Don't Feed The Monster on Tuesday," "Don't Rant & Rave On Wednesday," and "Shelley, The Hyperactive Turtle," for 22 educational hours.

--Presentations on Discipline & Child Development were given to 61 youth, ages 11 to 14, for the Red Cross Baby-sitting Course in 17 educational hours.

--"Respect Yourself And Others Too," program was presented to three third grade classes by Cummins MHC staff for one educational hour.

--"Claire's Story," a special program on childhood depression, was presented to 181 eighth grade students at Brownsburg Junior High school for 12 educational hours.

--45 twelve year old Girl Scouts participated in the program "Understanding Those With Mental Disabilities," presented by MHAHC Board Member Rosie Carney.

--Self-Esteem presentations were given at Avon Outdoor Education Day for grades K-S.

Total classroom hours for the year = 150.

Mutual Support Groups (that met during 1995)

--Drop-In Support Center, 48 different individuals attended 24 sessions for 48 hours of support.

--Attention Deficit, 48 different individuals attended 10 sessions for 29 hours of support.

--Divorce Recovery, six different individuals attended five sessions for 7.5 hours of support.

--Depression/Manic Depression, 13 different individuals attended 13 sessions for 26 hours of support.

--Single Parents, ten different individuals attended five sessions for 7.5 hours of support.

--Women's Issues, 20 different individuals attended 23 sessions for 34.5 hours of support.

--Widowed Person, 51 different individuals attended 20 sessions for 51 hours of support.

--Anxiety, 24 different individuals attended 18 sessions for 27 hours of support.

--Singles Over 40, 246 different individuals attended 45 sessions for 173.5 hours of support.

--Families of the Mentally Ill, 19 different individuals attended nine sessions of 13.5 hours of support.

--Grief, 15 different individuals attended nine sessions for 18 hours of support.

Grand Total--503 different individuals attended 181 sessions for 426.5 hours of support

Volunteer Services

-23 different MHAHC Friendly Visitors at county health care centers, Cummins MHC & supervised residences, and Hendricks County home. Visited 13 different individuals one-to-one and 529 duplicated individuals in group settings for a total of 225 hours.

--Other MHAHC Volunteers included: Clerical, 32 Hoosier House volunteers; Drop-In Center, 134 hours (8 volunteers); Christmas Gift Lift 1,224 hours (21 volunteers + 6 groups); Christmas Wreath Sales, 210 hours (25 volunteers); Booth & Other Fundraising, 319 hours; school Programs, 31 hours (2 volunteers); "Day of Caring," 19 hours (5 volunteers); Board Members, 231 hours volunteered by MHAHC Board Member (26 Board Members reporting, meetings only); and Support Group Facilitators, 34 hours (2 leaders reporting).

Christmas Gift Lift

--769 individuals received gifts (Lame Carter patients, Cummins MHC clients, health care center & county home residents).

--$1,437 was contributed by businesses/groups/individuals for gift purchases.

--Estimated cash value of donated gifts = $3,624.88 in box donations = $1,774.65 in Carter/Cummins scroll gifts = $5,399.53.

--Cash contributions + value of donated gifts = $6,836.53.

Fund Raising Efforts

--606 wreaths in three sizes were sold in this 7th sale year (576 in '94, 647 in '93, 512 in '92, 364 in '91, 219 in '90, and 186 in '89).

--The sale of "I'm Thumbody Special!" T & sweatshirts promotes this program effort & promotes self-esteem ($219 net).

--Individuals/groups/businesses joined MHAHC with paid memberships for a total of $2,430.

--$984.54 was the net profit from the 3rd Annual Valentine Send-A-Hug. 217 "hugs" and Valentine gifts were sent thanks to three lovable and affectionate bears!

--The 1st Annual Haunted Bridge Flea Market/Craft Festival net profit added $1,028.49 to MHAHC income.

--Children's games at festivals and booths netted $444.83. These fluids help offset costs of parenting packets.

--MHAHC concession stand at The Flyer Garage Sale netted $307.67, while the auction netted $410.00.

--The book sale of "Don't Pop Your Cork On Mondays," "Don't Feed The Monster On Tuesdays," and "Don't Rant & Rave on Wednesdays," contributed by Dr. Adolph Moser realized $424 in additional funds for MHAHC.

--Donations solicited on behalf of the Drop-In Support Center brought in $1,735 to this financially needy and worthwhile program and support group.

--Other small projects with incomes benefiting MHAHC include Bell Sales, Beasley's apple pie contest, Avon H.S. NHS Volleyball tournament, NSSB Bank Opening, and WalMart selected charities.

Other Income Notes

--Additional individuals contributed to MHAHC through the United Way Campaign effort! Thank You!

--MHAHC received a PSI Grant for $1,600 to purchase a new computer system.

--MHAHC received an I.O.F. Grant of $1,000 for Active Parenting Program Educator Stipends.

--Step Ahead Council (MHAHC) received a $1,000 Grant for child care, refreshments, materials, and books for Active Parenting Programs from the Hendricks County Substance Abuse Task Force.

--"Helping Children Through The Divorce" fees for program materials, clerical costs, and instructional/teaching fees.

--On 7/1, MHAHC became the Fiscal Agent for the Hendricks County Step Ahead Council and receives a 10% administrative fee to handle these funds.
